Soweto Marathon

The Old Mutual Soweto Marathon is a popular sell-out with a cap of 11,000 runners on the 42.2 km full marathon, 7,000 on the half-marathon and another 7,000 on the 10 km leg. Beginning and ending at FNB Stadium, it swings by such Soweto landmarks as Walter Sisulu Square in the heart of Kliptown and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela's current home. Known as "The People's Marathon," it is greeted along the route by rousing cheers, chants and other encouragements.
