The first major demonstration of pride took place on June 28, 1969, when rioters gathered to protest a police raid on New York City's Stonewall Inn, a turning point for the LGBT movement.

Today, millions gather at thousands of events around the world to celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance. Many take place during LGBT Pride Month in June in commemoration of the Stonewall riots, but anyone looking for an annual reminder will find marches, parades and parties year round from snowy mountain-top winter prides to sunny summer festivals.
