The first gay cruise launched in 1986 when the RSVP charter company set sail on the Bermuda Star (nicknamed the SS Brenda Star) out of New Orleans with 750 men on board. Since then, the offer has expanded considerably - not only with other established and dedicated gay and lesbian cruise companies like Atlantis Events and the women-only Olivia Travel - but also large cruise liners offering activities that cater to the LGBT community. Both veteran and virgin cruise voyagers will find a nice selection of popular and off-the-beaten-path itineraries to tropical ports of call, into desolate snow-washed landscapes or along picturesque rivers connecting bucket list cities, year-round.
