Agia Paraskevi, Lesbos, Lesbos Prefecture, Greece
Celebrated with horse races and the slaughter of a bull - a remnant of pagan ceremonies - the Bull's Feast is one of the more unusual summer festivals on Lesvos. With a heritage reaching back to the 17th century, it's a fascinating glimpse into a ritual that has flourished on this island for centuries. A highlight is the traditional stew cooked in large cauldrons and served to the revelers, after which candlelit vigils are held.
