The Cape Town Cycle Tour, the world's largest individually times cycle race, began in 1978 and now draws some 35,000 cyclists from all over the world. They pedal a scenic 66-mile (109 km) route from the city center down the Cape Peninsula and back on what was formerly known as the Cape Argus Cycle Tour.
