Around the middle of July, Cologne puts on Germany's biggest high-altitude fireworks display. The explosive show can be seen from the Rhine, on one of the many boats that set sail on the evening to make an equally lovely lanterned procession that can be viewed from the banks. Festivities begin around midday and the light show begins at 11:30 pm.
