Wandies Place, a former sheen (illegal bar) that became Soweto's first restaurant in 1981, is now an institution and tourbus stop. But the friendly spot in Dube Village still serves the copious buffet sampled by celebrities like Bill Clinton, Evander Holyfield, Jesse Jackson and Richard Branson. The menu features roasted meats, spicey salads and South African fare like mogodu (tripe) and ting (soft porridge). It has a full and now legal bar.
