The Chi Lin Nunnery is a 20th century Buddhist temple complex done up in Tang dynasty style, the only example of the architecture in Hong Kong. Covering an area of more than 33,000 square meters (8 acres), it includes a nunnery, Chinese gardens and a series of temple halls with statues of the Sakyamuni Buddha, the goddess of mercy, and other bodhisattva made from gold, clay, wood and stone. Near by in the Diamond Hill district is Nan Lian Garden, also built in Tang style. It is a public park with a permanent exhibition of Chinese timber architecture and a vegetarian restaurant/tea house.
