The 6th century Great Mosque of Xi'an is the largest mosque in China and the only one open to visitors although non-Musims cannot enter the main prayer hall. On the UNESCO Islamic Heritage List since 1985, it is a mix of Muslim and Chinese design and covers 12,000 square meters (over an acre). It is divided into four courtyards, the fourth large enough to accommodate over 1,000 worshippers. Look for the entrance near a small coverage passageway just east of the Drum Tower.
