Eilat attracts people from all over Israel for its weather, climate and also shopping. There is no VAT here so the savings of 17% paid elsewhere in the country is a definite draw. Also, if you want to cross over to Aqaba, Jordan for a day trip to Petra you are not required to get the Jordanian visa which costs around $80.
The Red Sea beaches are beautiful. You can snorkel over the coral reef. Hotel beaches have waiter service. The resort city is popular in the Fall to Spring. In the summer it is active but temperatures are usually over 40 C.
