Built around a 19th-century villa - named Louisiana after the original owner's three wives, all of whom were called Louise - the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is the most visited gallery in Denmark. The location is a sublime mix of architecture and landscape, with a series of glass pavilions overlooking the Oresund strait, and makes a dramatic setting for the vast art collection inside. The permanent collection includes work by Calder, Bacon, Rothko, Picasso and Rauschenberg, but the museum is equally famous for its temporary shows, which have recently featured Paul Klee, Ai Weiwei, and Olafur Eliasson. Admission is 110 DKK.
