Running alongside Brighton Beach is Volk's Electric Railway, the oldest operating electric railway in the world. Opened in 1883, it runs 1.02 miles with three stops, connecting Brighton's Aquarium and Pier to the far East end of the beach, the naturist section and the Marina. The single track has a passing loop at Halfway Station, allowing two trains to run in opposite directions keeping the 15 minute services on time. Note that it usually does not run in the winter months.
