The building that houses Scala, a queer-friendly super club near the King's Cross railway station, was originally designed as a cinema but with the arrival of World War I, an aircraft parts manufacturer moved in. Over the next 60-so years, it was used as a labor exchange, art house, adult cinema and primatarium. In 1999, it reopened as a club with two dance floors and a varied calendar of events including queer nights, live big-name music acts and weekend club nights.
