London's Soho has long been the center of pleasures, guilty and otherwise, and since the 1980s one of the world's best known gayborhoods. Old favorites like The Duke of Wellington continue to thrive and LGBTQ-centric enterprises like the newish SHE Soho bar cluster on Old Compton Street, but the square mile of real estate has gone all posh. Pricey apartments and trendy restaurants and boutiques have replaced the old sex shops and gritty charm. Tourists, gay and straight, continue to throng to the area, particularly on weekends. It's well worth a visit for old times' sake and because it is so centrally located, but it has competition these days from auxiliary gayborhoods like Shoreditch in East London and Stoke Newington (Stokey), popular with lesbians.
