St. James's Park, the oldest of the capital's eight Royal Parks, it draws its name from a thirteenth century leper hospital that once occupied the park grounds. Today, it is the setting for spectacular ceremonies with the Mall and the Horse Guards Parade within its boundaries. Its neighbours include Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, St James's Palace and Westminster. The annual Trooping of Colour marks the Queen's official birthday in June with an impressive and traditional Royal ceremony.
