Her Majesty's Royal Palace and Fortress is a Medieval castle right on the River Thames in Central London known as the Tower of London. Built in 1066 and re-built in 1285, it has served the royal family as a residence, the treasury, Royal Mint, public offices, Royal Menagerie, prison and nowadays storage for the Crown Jewels of England. Open to visitors, it is on of the most popular tourist attraction in the United Kingdom, and in 1988 it was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Expect queues and book in advance for a better ticket deal.
