Celebrating Carnival in Paris goes back centuries, but the tradition was reintroduced only in 1997. Tens of thousands of spectators line the streets as a costumed parade with drums and whistles noisily makes its way from the Place Gambetta to the Place de la République where it culminates in a big party. Each year has a different theme: 2016 was the fantastic water world, 2017 the dance of fruits and vegetables around the world.
