Cartier SQ established the Fondation Cartier in 1984 to exhibit both established and emerging artists. Its strikingly contemporary building was designed by Jean Nouvel on the site of the former American Center for Students and Artists. It houses over 1000 works in addition to special exhibits. Outside is a woodland garden created by Lothar Baumgarten, a German conceptual artist. Architectural tours of the building are scheduled at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. one Saturday a month.
