Perched at the top of Montmartre on the highest point in Paris, Sacré Coeur Basilica offers spectacular views from its terrace, which can be reached by on paths zigzagging up a hillside park or by the funicular, a tram costing one Metro ticket. A children's playground and antique merry-go-round is at the bottom of the park. The Romano-Byzantine church is relatively new, designed by Paul Abadie Jr. in the late 19th century and not consecrated until 1919. It is most impressive when crowded with worshippers during major religious holidays like Easter and Christmas.
