To the west of the Tiergarten and connected to Mitte by the Straße des 17. Juni road, Charlottenburg is less of a crowd favorite than Krezuberg or Neukölln but is certainly well-known among shoppers: here lies Kürfurstendamm, which is Berlin's most famous avenue for luxury retailers. Formerly West Germany's commercial center, it is still rather built-up compared to the city's other boroughs. It also has Kantonstraße, Berlin's Chinatown, and Schloß Charlottenburg, an immense 18th-century palace and the district's namesake.
