No first trip to Berlin should be complete without paying a visit to its Jewish Museum, one of the more impressive modern structures in the city. The permanent exhibit, a walk through of Jewish history in Germany from the earliest medieval settlements along the Rhine to the catastrophe of the Shoah, is housed in both a traditional Baroque building and a zig-zagging postmodern wing designed by Daniel Liebeskind and accessible only by an underground passage from the former.
