Since the Wall went up in the sixties and turned this part of town into a virtual island, Kreuzberg has been seen as a beacon for a kind of lawless living. Undocumented immigrants, students and artists moved to this area to either squat or take advantage of the extremely low rents and relative anonymity, and created a peaceful and culturally vibrant no-holds-barred cosmopolitanism that would be the face of Cool Berlin for most of the rest of the century. Though today hipsters may click their tongues at it, it's still full of international communities, hole-in-the-wall haunts, graffiti-covered facades and the Schwules Museum.

Very diverse neighboorhood with a lot of little cafes & restaurants . I loved walking around the blocks and just watching people and enjoying the vibe. A must if you like culture & people.
