There is no cathedral in Germany more famous or imposing than Cologne's, built in lacy and airy French Gothic style with its impressive twin-spires, a long line of columns, the loftiest of naves and hundreds of stone steps. The richly detailed figures of the 12 apostles, Jesus and Mary at the entrance are considered masterpieces of medieval sculpture, and a masterful stained glass window by Gerhard Richter was added in 2007.
