Designed in 1922 by Fritz Encke, Cologne's Volksgarten is a popular city park with lake paddling, a children's playground, a beautiful rose garden and a Biergärten. Though large portions of the land were farmed upon after the second World War, the park is now under protection as a historic site and its Brunnentempel (fountain-temple) has been lovingly restored. A good excuse to explore the "outerer" Grüngürtel.
