A favorite with visiting artists, poets, and politicians, Ermis Ouzeri consistently makes the list of the top ten restaurants on the island of Lesvos. Technically an ouzo bar, the food is the real star, with small plates of expertly spiced Mediterranean food like soutsoukakia - meatballs in a light tomato sauce - octopus in wine sauce, slow-cooked chickpeas, or handmade sausages. Don't miss out on the ouzo, though, which has been selected to complement the menu and can be served in a tasting flight. The restaurant dates back to Ottoman times, and its shaded terrace is in one of the nicest places in the city to indulge in a long lunch. Be sure to bring cash as they don't accept credit cards.
