Despite the remote location and sleepy atmosphere, Skala Eressos has a decent number of attractions, from the Petrified Forest to a number of classical Greek ruins. The landscape itself is of course a big draw, with hidden caves, tumbling waterfalls, and shaded swimming holes, and a short hike into the surrounding hills will yield any number of breathtaking vistas. Day trips to neighboring villages, some of which can be easily reached on bicycle or scooter, will give you an even greater sense of the island. Those who need an injection of pop culture can head to the local movie house, or fire up their laptop anywhere along the waterfront, which is entirely covered by WiFi. While there's not a lot of shopping to be had in Skala Eressos, it does have two mini-markets, a bakery, and a butcher, as well as several small shops selling clothes, silver jewelry, and handmade gifts. And the hippie vibe here is definitely alive and kicking, so when you want to slow it down there's always a yoga class or meditation session to drop in on.
