For seven hundred years, the English presided over the Irish colonial project from this intimidating but magnificent structure. Built by Vikings in 930, the castle served as the stronghold for the Normans in 1150, for the English in 1250 and for Irish nationalists in 1916. Visitors can explore a notable collection of Asian and Middle Eastern Art at the library, tour the Garda Museum of the Irish police force or creep through the crypt in the Royal Chapel.
