With baby cribs, family rooms and extra beds available, the NH Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky is a family-friendly 5-star option in the heart of the city.

2
Start your day with breakfast in the impressive winter garden before stepping out into Dam Square on the hotel's doorstep. There is something for everyone from an array of shops, the Wynand Fockink gin distillery, Madame Tussaud's wax museum and frequent street performers to landmark attractions including the New Church, Royal Palace, Stock Exchange and National Memorial Statue. There may even be a fair going on, complete with fairground rides, depending on the time of year.

Head over to Centraal Station for a stoll-by viewing of the 19th century neo-renaissance architecture, a stunning backdrop for a family walk-around. There are tons of shops including a small supermarket, pharmacy and gift shops, but save lunch for the kid favorite Pancakes! nearby, serving standard and unusual combination pancakes, all made with fresh, organic produce.

4

After lunch, get ready for the NEMO Science Center, one of Holland's most visited museums and very close to the Centraal Station on Oosterdok. The entire family will learn about everything from DNA chain reactions to how new buildings are constructed in what could be hours of exploring the fascinating installations.

5
Alternatively, The Artis Royal Zoo at the Artisplein is only a 20-minute walk away, but it could be a world apart from the hustle and bustle of Dam Square. This all-in-one public park, zoo and museum is a great way to spend a day with the family. Admission is free to the park and the beautiful cafĂ© in the historic Ledenlokalen building on the Planate Kerklaan, but tickets are needed for the full zoo experience, including Microbia, the first museum in the world dedicated to the microbes.
6
On your walk back to the hotel, stop at the Sugar & Spice Bakery on Zeedijk for a slice of heaven on a plate. Traditional cakes, pastries, coffee, tea and loads of other yummy things are served in this sweet little bakery.

After some well earned down time at the hotel, dinner is at The College Hotel, located in a renovated school building just 15 minutes by cab or 20 minutes by tram. One of Amsterdam's hotspots, it serves up a fun atmosphere complemented by the all hospitality school student staff. Although certainly child-friendly, if your youngsters are too young to come out for dinner, childcare services can be organized through the hotel.
