The state-run Hermitage Museum is one of the largest and oldest museums in the world, founded by Catherine the Great in 1764. The collection of over three million paintings, mosaics, pottery and other ancient artifacts from prehistory to modern times is housed in a central museum complex of six historic buildings along Palace Embankment as well as several satellite buildings. The entrance for individuals to the left side of the Grand Court of the Winter Palace. Entrance is free the first Thursday of every month for all visitors and always free for students and children.

Great museum. Displays from Parthia and warrior tombs in Siberia. Some of the display cards look like they haven't been changed since Stalin.
