The enormous Catalonia Plaza is the center of the city where the Gothic Quarter and 19th century Barcelona meet. Its a transportation hub for three metros and a city railway line and the start of the famous Rambla promenade of the old city and the Paseig de Gràcia with its modernistic architecture. It is a pleasant plaza with fountains and statues and a good spot for people- and pigeon-watching. On one side of the square is El Corte Inglés, an imposing department store with branches around the country.
