Built in 1987, the 434-room Hotel Jardin Tecina is set in 17 acres (7 ha) of landscaped gardens high above the the still sleepy fishing village of Santiago. It has five swimming pools, tennis courts, racket ball, mini-golf, ping pong, a game room, fishing, nature walks, hiking and direct beach access. The 18-hole Tecina Golf Course, the only one on the island, has sea views and is within walking distance. At night, there's entertainment in the bar. Children enjoy kids' club activities, a mini-disco and a playground. The resort is part of Fred Olsen, S.A., which runs an inter-island ferry service and is owned by descendants of a Swede who established plantations in the area in 1904.
