Bern's cathedral is built in the Gothic style with three naves, the central of which is supported by 14 flying buttresses and decorated with a lacy vaulted ceiling and imposing stained glass windows, some dating from 1441 to 1450. The 300-foot (100 m) bell tower is open to the public, up 254 steps to the lower viewing platform with views across Bern to the Alps and up another 90 steps to the upper spire. Other notable features include the intricate sculpture of the Last Judgement at the portal and Switzerland's largest bell, which is rung daily at noon and 6 pm.
