Also known as the Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods), this sprawling 915-acre (370 ha) park was once the private retreat of dictator Juan Manuel de Rosas and became public land upon his overthrown on February 3, 1852. Main attractions include the Rosedale rose garden, Japanese garden, botanical gardens, Palermo lakes, Galileo Galilei Planetarium, hippodrome and polo grounds.
