Two and a half hours north of Rio is the Búzios peninsula, a former fishing village which became fashionable for its rustic charm and incredible natural beauty. With a number of chic boutiques, high class restaurants and over 20 beaches, the exclusive resort became a hotspot after Bridget Bardot paid a famous visit in the 1960s. For a relaxing meal, head to Rua das Pedras, and Geribá beach is the favorite for sports lovers.

Small town with not much to do, the beaches get very crowded on weekends. I heard that Arraial do Cabo is much better if you want a nicer beach and quieter time. The place probably has more Argentinians than Brazilians there which makes it confusing. I wouldn't go back

Búzios is an incredible city where you'll find a great atmosphere to relax and enjoy the nature. It used to be a small fisherman Village in the past but now it's a summer destiny of wealthy people. Because of that you'll find great restaurant options. Avoid the weekends or holidays as the city get crowd. Once a year there's a gay festival during the winter, besides that it's not a gay city.
