This iconic statue and city symbol overlooks Rio from the top of Corcovado Mountain. Inaugurated in 1931 and owned by the Catholic Church, the art deco-styled Christ the Redeemer stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall with an arm span of 92 feet (28 meters). A train service runs up the mountain every half and takes about 20 minutes, or there is a car park, from which a vans ferry visitors to the the viewing platform.
