This iconic statue and city symbol overlooks Rio from the top of Corcovado Mountain. Inaugurated in 1931 and owned by the Catholic Church, the art deco-styled Christ the Redeemer stands 98 feet (30 meters) tall with an arm span of 92 feet (28 meters). A train service runs up the mountain every half and takes about 20 minutes, or there is a car park, from which a vans ferry visitors to the the viewing platform. For dedicated outdoor adventurers, there are multiple routes up the mountain, best with a guide.

It's one of the best spots to have a great view of the city. Take your time on the way to it visiting the Tijuca Forest as well on the way to Christ the redeemer. Take care with people offering transport or tours.
