The picturesque Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon in the middle of affluent Zona Sul is encircled by a 4.6 mile (7.5 km) path, often filled with joggers and cyclists. Although not yet suitable for swimming, the lake has its share of wildlife including fish and egrets, as well as two private island country clubs. Kiosks along the path sell light snacks and cold drinks, and bike rentals are available along the way. A redevelopment project has also spruced up the area, adding new parks, free sports courts and a cinema and restaurant complex on the lagoon banks.
