A rare preserved sanctuary in Rio, the Grumari beach was declared a protected area in the 80's. It has a wilder feeling than the Barra beach nearby, and access here is made only by car. Surfing is the main sport in this idillic setting. It is fairly quiet during the week, with more surfers and their fans gathering at the weekends.
