Praia Vermelha is a scenic sandy cove with reddish, coarse sand and calm waters. It is also the launch point for the Sugar Loaf cable-car and popular with locals on the weekends. Because of the pollution in the bay, swimming is ill-advised, but grab a refreshing coconut water or beer at one of the kiosks.
