The trendy and bohemian Santa Teresa neighborhood near the city centre offers a different face of Rio. Artists, writers and musicians moved into dilapidated mansions after the wealthy moved away to the south side of town, creating studios and galleries. The rejuvenated area is now vibrant and edgy, complete with the last streetcar operating in the city over the old aqueduct- known as "the bonde" - and cobblestone streets flanked by bars and restaurants.
