The fresh-water Coyuca Lagoon, located 10 kilometers (6 mi) north of the city, is a wild and beautiful habitat of coconut groves, palm trees, mangrove and floating hyacinths. Hollywood finds it the perfect jungle setting and filmed early Tarzan films and Rambo II there. Several islands in the lagoon are bird sanctuaries for over 250 species. The 28-square-mile lagoon is big enough to accommodate both nature lovers and water-skiers and other water sport enthusiasts. Boat tours are available.
