One of the world's most impressive collections of pre-Hispanic art and artifacts is housed in the National Museum of Anthropology in Chapultepec Park. The museum also has ethnographic exhibits of present-day indigenous groups in Mexico. Not to miss: The Sun Stone (the Aztec calendar stone), the reconstruction of a Mayan tomb and giant Olmec stone heads. The building itself is monumental, designed in 1964 and covering almost eight hectares (c. 20 acres) of courtyard, exhibition halls and gardens.

Maybe the best of its kind in the world. That said, it's huge, and comprises several collections being time consuming and no easy feat for a hurried turist.
