John Huston so loved Puerto Vallarta when filming "Night of the Iguana" that he bought a house there, later leasing La Caletas, an undeveloped island owned by an indigenous people south of the city. Today the lease is held by a tour company, which hosts day and evening boat trips. Tourists travel by catamaran to the island paradise where they can spend the day on the beach, enjoying spa services, snorkeling, scuba divining or exploring the cove by kayak or paddle board. Other options: learning to cook paella, taking a yoga lesson, walking through the jungle and orchid gardens, viewing the Mayan pyramid and amphitheater where dance performances are held on the "Rhythms of the Night" tour. It also has a kids' adventure park where the 4-to-11 set can swing through the treetops on a miniature zip line.
