Opened by the Mexican Navy in 2006, the Puerto Vallarta Naval Historical Museum explores the history of Mexico as it is connected with the sea. The permanent collection, housed in five rooms of a colonial-styled building, displays paintings, photography, documents and maps. Of particular interest are the navigational instruments and scale models of forts and ports and vessels old and new. The museum also traces the development of Puerto Vallarta.
