As one of Atlanta's most significant historical sites and one of its loveliest parks, the Oakland Cemetery is home to countless deceased southerners, many of them famous, such as author Margaret Mitchell and golfer Bobby Jones. It also packs into its 48-acre lot thousands of unknown dead Confederates under a towering obelisk honoring their service, as well as countless African-Americans, both enslaved and free. Tours available. Open dawn to dusk.
