Formerly known as Hollywood Beach, currently known as "gay beach", Kathy Osterman beach is the most well-known LGBTQ-friendly beach in the city. While the north end of the beach is more chill and family-friendly, the south end is where cruisy, LGBT folks congregate and feel safest. Expect larger crowds with rising temperatures. Highlights include watching local gay bar teams face off in volleyball tournaments, rainbow-colored lounge chairs to cheaply rent, on-site concessions (included sangria & ceviche), free wifi and ADA accessible. Lack of a parking lot makes driving there least recommended, but a red line El train station is only blocks away. Multi-colored flags are used daily to indicate whether it's safe to swim in the water.
