The first Louie's Backyard opened in 1971 in an old Victorian house by the sea with one waiter and seating for 12. Today's much expanded version has open dining and two cocktail decks and is on the National Register of Historic Places. All seafood comes from local waters, its produce from a local garden. Its cookbook (2009) pretty much sums it up in the title, "Louie's Backyard Cookbook: Irresistible Island Dishes and the Best Ocean View in Key West."
