The Charlie, a gated compound named after Charlie Chaplin who once owned the property, is a collection of 14 English-style shingled cottages where celebrities like Gloria Swanson, Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich and Bette Davis stayed and Chaplin had a pied-à-terre. After a multi-million renovation, it re-opened in 2008 as a hotel, offering 1- or 2-bedroom apartments and cottages, tucked here and there in the gardens. Among the amenities are privacy and grocery deliveries.
