Mount Wilson Observatory, high above the city, is home to a number of solar and night-time telescopes, including the 60-inch (1.5 m) Hale and the 100-inch (2.5 m) Hooker, the world's largest telescope for much of the first half of the 20th century. Today both are devoted to public use. Docent-led weekend tours at 1 pm April through November include a visit to the telescope floor. Night-time viewing through Hale and Hooker can be arranged. Group rates for the Hale are $950 for a half-night and $1,700 for a full-night. The Hooker runs $2,700 /$5,000. There is also a self-guided tour of the observatory.
