Storied Santa Monica Pier, a landmark for over 100 years, is the official end of Highway 66 at the foot of posh Santa Monica. The pier - dual piers really - is home to the world's only solar-powered ferris wheel, the historic Looff Hippodrome Carousel, an aquarium, a carnival midway, souvenir shops, a trapeze school and seafood restaurants. You can even rent a fishing rod, bait and tackle and drop a line off the pier. Entrance to Pacific Park, the amusement park on the pier, is free with individual fees for the rides, including a roller coaster that circles the park. Hours on the pier vary according to activity and season.
