Next to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, The Broad is a dramatic new contemporary art museum housing two floors of gallery space with some 2,000 works of postwar and contemporary art. The New York firm of Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed $140-million building in collaboration with Gensler. It made architectural news with its "veil-and-vault" concept, the fiber-reinforced concrete exterior allowing the light-controlled interior to be bathed in natural light. Free admission but book ahead unless you want to take your chances with the onsite standby lines.
